As an aspiring designer from the Bronx, Ralph Lauren had never actually played polo, but in selecting a name for his first menswear line, he chose the most aspirational sport he could. The polo icon found on this T-shirt, depicting a player in mid swing, was first debuted in 1971 on the cuff of women's shirting, and has since gone on to become synonymous with luxury itself.
